Malacky Synagogue

The two-story building, which was built with a religious function in 1887, was constructed under the supervision of the local builder Ján Terebessy according to the project of the Jewish Austrian architect . The foundation stone was laid on March 11, 1887, and the synagogue, donated by the landowning couple Simon and Cäcilie Spitzer, was officially opened on September 13 of the same year. Stiassny, who was named an honorary member of the local Jewish religious community, also took part in this ceremony. The building was damaged as a result of a fire from the night of July 18 to 19, 1889, and was subsequently reconstructed to its present form, again under the leadership of Ján Terebessy in 1900. In 1942, during the in the , most of the Jewish population in the town were deported to the extermination camps and . The synagogue served the Jewish religious community until the 1950s when it was put under the administration of the state, while from the 1980s it was used for cultural and social events.

The two domes of the building, which is built in the Neo-Moorish and Byzantine styles, are topped with a that features a Star of David, and the center of which is decorated with the tablets of the law.
