József Steiner Palace

The impressive two-story corner building was built in 1910 for the residential needs of the Hungarian architect József Steiner according to his own design. He was born on February 27, 1872, in , as the son of Jakab Steiner and Hermin Neumann. On October 23, 1898, as a royal engineer of state architecture in Arad, he was engaged to the beautiful daughter of the Arad merchant József Grimm, Blanka, and in 1899 they got married. From that year on, his name is associated with the design of a series of public buildings in the city and other places. As a successful engineer, he was a defining figure in the architectural society of his time. József Steiner died on October 16, 1958, in .

The pyramid-hipped roof at the top of the corner of the Art Nouveau building, which is interrupted in two places by an , is crowned with a . The facades are also determined by two other oriel windows, as well as several balconies, which in some cases are supported by . The corbels, like many other parts of the building, are beautifully embellished with a . Two of the balconies are supported by a total of four columns, which are crowned with a lovely . The building presents several Masonic symbols like a peacock, and the royal crown, along with essential signs such as a set square and a compass, enthroned on each side of the building.
