János Kintzig Palace

The two-story building, which housed both residential and commercial functions, was constructed in 1902 according to the design of the Hungarian architect József Steiner. The building was built for the Hungarian politician János Kintzig, who was born on September 7, 1870, in the village of Șimand as the son of the landowner János Kintzig and Lujza Zeitlinger. After high school, he continued his studies at the University of Economics in Hohenheim and the Academy of Economics in Magyaróvár. On June 9, 1900, in , he married Erzsébet Margit Gabriella Beliczey with whom he had two children, which were named Georgette and János. In December 1915, he was appointed chief steward of Arad County, a position from which he resigned in 1917. During communism in 1919, he became the Minister of Agriculture of the counter-revolutionary government in Arad, after which he went to and resigned together with Count Gyula Károlyi, the prime minister of the counter-revolutionary government. He also took an active part in the economic life of the county of Arad and was a member of the management of many commercial and industrial companies. János Kintzig died on July 14, 1939, in Arad at the age of 68.

In the past, the first floor of the building was in use by the Italian and Romanian Commercial Bank Bucharest for a certain period of time, as can be seen in the .

The most distinctive features of the Art Nouveau building are the two , which are supported by a cone-shaped under which a is placed. Underneath the roof cornice, which also runs around the oriel windows, you can see different-sized and an motif. Much use is made of floral decorations to brighten up the building, including many sunflowers, which are used to embellish the corbels and the that crown the . The stone blocks above the circle-top windows on the second floor come together in the middle to form a . The pilasters on the first floor, above which a fragment can be seen that's framed with an motif, are crowned with an Ionic capital.
