Mato Tomljanović House

The two-story residential building, which was probably built somewhere at the beginning of the 20th century, was constructed on the plot where a one-story building used to stand with a Dutch gable roof. The building was owned by the chimney sweeper Mato Tomljanović, who found a large amount of hidden gold in the communist authorities confiscated building of the wealthy watchmaker Franjo Schwendemann. After the , Franjo, as a member of the German national minority, was imprisoned in a concentration camp where he died of exhaustion. His wife Julija, maiden name Becherer, died in a similar camp near . When Mato Tomljanović found the gold in the late 1950s, he sold this house to the Sisters of the Holy Cross and moved to .

The building, which is built in the style of Art Nouveau, is beautifully and lavishly decorated with all sorts of geometric decorations. Underneath the roof , you can admire both a strip of and an motif. A straight is placed above the second floor windows, while underneath these windows, an can be seen. Another apron is placed underneath the first floor windows, which is just like many of the decorations, including the above these same windows, decorated with . The iron-barred windows of the main entrance door, as well as the wrought iron railing of the balcony, are embellished with . The balcony is supported by two , which contain even more rosettes.
