Hadji Ivan Hadjivalchev House

The building, which features two floors for residential purposes, was constructed for Hadji Ivan Hadjivalchev and built in memory of his sons Hristo and Alexander, who died in the wars that took place between 1912 and 1918. He was born in the village of on May 20, 1856, in the family of Hadji Valcho Kunov, who later moved to Vidin, where Hadji Ivan graduated from grade school. He studied relatively well but developed even better in the field of commerce and industry. In Vidin, he started a family by marrying the daughter of the wealthy Vidin craftsman Tseko Vanchev, with whom he had four sons. He was elected mayor of Vidin twice, once in 1903, but he ruled for only two months and resigned for unknown reasons and another time from the period from 1905 until 1908. During his terms as mayor, the municipal council made decisions for the construction of a velodrome for the cycling association, the transformation of the garden Vladikina Bahcha into a park, giving way to the community center named Tsvyat for the construction of its building, determining a place for the construction of a monument to the officers and soldiers who died during the . As a prominent public figure, honored and respected in the city, he was invited to on the occasion of the engagement of Tsar . Hadji Ivan Hadjivalchev, who was one of the founders of the first Vidin sports association called Bdinski Yunak, died on December 17, 1936. The citizens of Vidin demonstrated their great respect for their mayor, organizing a city-wide pilgrimage for him, which was followed by a solemn funeral.
