Ashkenazi Synagogue

The construction of the two-story building, which was built for religious purposes, was completed in 1902. It was built according to a design that came from the hand of the Czech architect as a house of worship for the Jewish community in Sarajevo. The construction works were led by the builder Ludwig Jungwirth and the interior decoration and painting of the synagogue was the work of master Ludwig Oisner. The consecration of the synagogue was performed by Doctor Nadrabin. Samuel Wesel. This synagogue was originally Ashkenazi, but because the Sephardic synagogue was destroyed in 1941, this synagogue later acquired an Ashkenazi and Sephardic part. Even after the , with the high number of Sarajevo Jews who were deported, the Aškenazi Synagogue remained the only active Jewish temple in the city.

The symmetrical building, which was built Neo-Moorish style, features a total of four covered with a dome that's crowned with a containing the Star of David. The building is lavishly decorated with all sorts of Moorish motifs and patterns, which are mainly visible on top of the building. The building features several , which are adorned with another Star of David or a ball of wool.
