The construction of the three-story building, which was built for residential purposes, was completed in November 1869. It was built by a design that was created by Franje Linardov and Franjo Moise from , as the first ever built three-story building in the city. It was built for the residential needs of the sultan's governors in Sarajevo. After the of 1878, when Austro-Hungary was granted control of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the National Government was formed in the building. During the Austro-Hungarian administration, the heads of the country stayed in Konak, the Austro-Hungarian Emperor slept there for four days during his visit to Sarajevo in May 1910. After the assassination of Austro-Hungarian Archduke and heir to the throne on June 28, 1914, their bodies were brought here, where the autopsies were performed and the bodies prepared for their final viewing.

During the time that Bosnia and Herzegovina was part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the building was used as a royal residence. The first medical faculty in Bosnia and Herzegovina, opened on November 22, 1944, in Sarajevo, which was located in Konak and the surrounding buildings. After the , the building was returned to its residential function, and the President of Yugoslavia, , and high-ranking foreign guests occasionally stayed there during official visits. This building was partially damaged during the and was later renovated. It later became a facility used by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and for occasional state functions.

The part of the building, which is built in the Neo-Renaissance style with some Art Nouveau elements, contains a huge . The pillars supporting the loggia turn into when they reach the third floor of the building. They're lavishly decorated with and all sorts of . Two strips of are placed underneath the roof , some of which are adorned with foliage, while the others are interrupted in some cases by a fragment adorned with a shield-shaped cartouche. Underneath these fragments, you can see another mascaron, which is beautifully decorated with sunflower ornamentation. In addition to a , you can also see several segmental above the third floor windows, which is also the case with the second floor windows. Underneath these same windows, you can either see a containing , an embellished with and dentils, or a fragment adorned with a surrounded by other floral ornamentation.
