Aleksandar Jančić House

- Dušanova 33 -
The two-story residential and commercial building gained its current appearance in 1927 when it was completely reconstructed by the then-famous baker Aleksandar Jančić-Mita from Niš. The original one-story building was bought from the Turks in 1873 by Kir Dimitrije Janča and turned it into a bakery. For many years, the Jančićs family lived in a small house in the yard behind the bakery. He got married to Darinka, who was the daughter of the then-famous blacksmith Mihajlo from Niš. In 1927, when their son Aleksandar got married, they decided to reconstruct the building and upgrade it with an extra floor. Aleksandar had two sons and a daughter, Dragoljub was born in 1927, Dimitrije in 1929, and daughter Vasilija in 1933. During the , the Jančić bakery had to work for the Germans and the family supported themselves by selling roasted seeds and small pastries. After the war, the new government took away parts of the property from the Jančić family, until 1967, when the family managed to return part of the property and reopened the bakery on the first floor of the building. The bakery worked there until 2006 when a bank was opened there.
