Viden Živković House

The two-story building, which was built in 1927, was built for the residential and commercial needs of the Serbian merchant Viden Živković. He was born in the family of Nikola Živković, who came from the small village of Duga Poljana to Niš at the end of the 19th century where he started working as a merchant. Nikola's sons Viden, Velimir, and Vladimir continued his business, while his son Sotir was a banker and the president of the First State Mortgage Bank in Niš, and his daughter Đurđa was without a profession. The trading business of the Živković family was going well, so three brothers founded the export-trading company which they called Viden Živković and Brothers. As early as 1920, they were exporting corn and grain to Greece, and before the beginning of the , they were also involved in the export of tobacco. With the gained capital they bought a lot of real estate and opened a lot of shops in Niš. Viden was married to Kosara, a member of a merchant family, with whom he had three sons, Branko, Dobrica, and Đorđe. During the Second World War, Branko went to America, Đorđe was killed on the Srem Front, and Dobrica was engaged in trade in Niš.

The most striking part of the building, which is built in the styles of Neo-Renaissance and Eclectic, is the that's crowned with . The roof of the turret, as well as the scaly sheet mansard roof, contains several dormers, of which the last mentioned ones are topped with a pointed . The turret, which is adorned with geometric shapes, the initials C.M., the year of construction, and supported by one lovely , is flanked by two balconies. The balconies, which are covered by an , are secured with a stone balustrade with incorporated . The roof is embellished with an motif, while the cornice that separates the first from the second floor, as well as the second floor window frames, are embellished with .
