János Guttmann House

The residential and commercial building was built in 1892 as a residence and income building for architect János Guttmann according to his design. One part of the property is located on the Calea Republicii and the other part of the property is located on the Strada Iosif Vulcan. The Guttmann family, who were of German origin and came from the Alsace–Lorraine region, settled in Oradea in the 18th century. János Guttman was a wealthy man, who was the director of a debt-purchasing bank, a successful construction entrepreneur, and a member of the city council.

The central dormer of the eastern property of the Neo-Renaissance buildings is covered with a dome that's crowned with a decorative vase as a . The broken pointed contains a bust of a male figure, while the segmental pediments that topped the other two dormers contain a . The frieze of the central dormer features loads of , each of which is embellished with three . The contain the same as the balconets that can be seen on both properties. The part underneath the roof is lavishly decorated with an motif, , adorned with guttae, cartouches, and various . Another broken pointed pediment is placed above the second floor windows, which either contains another bust or another decorative vase. The second floor windows are flanked by , which also count for the window of the central dormer. The , which are located on the second floor, are crowned with a Doric and embellished with a and . An extra dimension is given to the building because of the creation of the red and yellow bricks that form a zigzag motif.
