Hotel Bristol

The four-story building, which was built for the residential needs of the hotel with the name Bristol, was constructed between 1910 and 1912 as one of the oldest hotels in Belgrade. It was built according to the design that was created by the Serbian as the building for the Insurance and Credit Association of the Belgrade Cooperative, owned by . The Hotel Bristol had 52 rooms and 11 apartments, and there was also an aperitif bar, two national cuisine restaurants with 250 seats, a beer lounge with 40 seats, the Little Salon with 55 seats, and the pastry shop.

Hotel Bristol soon became the center of fashionable life, not only in Belgrade, but the entire Serbia and, later, Yugoslavia. Before the outbreak of the , it was very popular among the guests from Austria-Hungary. Guests included the members of the Rockefeller family, members of the British Royal family, numerous diplomats, officers, and more. One of the most famous Serbian folk singers, , started his career in Hotel Bristol. The façade was reconstructed in 1977 while the interior was partially renovated between 1985 and 1990. Since then, the hotel became known for its single-room occupancy, as many members of the army who were exiled from the former Yugoslav republics after the outbreak of the , were settled in the hotel.

The corners of the Art Nouveau building feature a , which is covered with a dome that's crowned with a . The part above the roof is lavishly decorated with loads of , , , and , as well as and , which are embellished with . Underneath the cornice, in addition to garlands and , you will also see several corbels embellished with foliage. The building is rich in all sorts of , which are either secured with a stone balustrade, or a cast iron railing. Underneath the balconet, you can either admire a lion head surrounded by two wings, or supportive . The window sills and the straight are also supported by various corbels. In addition to being decorated with several mascarons and cartouches, the building is also beautifully decorated with all kinds of floral ornaments, including foliage that originates from a .
