Vilmos Konen Villa

The one-story residential building, which was built according to a design that was created by the Serbian architect , was constructed in 1900. It was built for the industrialist Vilmos Konen from , who became the co-owner of the meat production company called Konen and Hartman. In 1885, the twenty-year-old Vilmos met his partner Rafael Hartman in , who was twenty years older than him. Their company was originally named Rafael Hartman and others but changed its name in 1890 to Konen and Hartman. In 1906 it started operating under the name Hungarian Meat Export Association. The company primarily dealt with egg and meat exports and had its own slaughterhouse and refrigerator in Subotica. Their company was the second one in Europe that built its own cold storage at the beginning of the century, and sometime later they were the first owners of refrigerator wagons in this part of Europe. Even after the political changes that took place after the , the company's prominent place in the industry of Subotica was maintained.
Vilmos Konen
In 1895, Vilmos Konen got married to Ilona Jakobčić, a lady from Subotica. Her social status was reflected in the fact that her wedding witnesses were Rafael Hartmann and the mayor at the time, . From their marriage, their son Vilmos Konen Jakobčić was also born in 1903. When he was 7 years old he received English lessons from a teacher from . At the age of 14, he was already studying in , and at the age of 24, he became the chairman of the board of directors in the family business, and his career continued to rise until 1941. During the , the Konen family experienced the fate of many of their Jewish compatriots, and in 1946 the communist authorities confiscated all their property. In 1963, slept in it once, and since then it has been called Tito's Villa.

The most eye-catching feature of the building, which is built in the Eclectic and Swiss chalet styles, is the turret, which at its base is square shaped, and higher up octagonal shaped. The that's placed on top of the turret contains a lantern tower, which is crowned with a . The top gable that can be seen on top of the contains a simplified , which is supported by simplified . All around the building, you can see some Tudor-like woodwork, as well as loads of . On the northern side of the building, you can see an impressive Dutch gable that contains a small .
