Administrative Palace

The construction of the imposing two-story administrative building started in 1872 and was completed four years later in 1875. The building, which was built according to the design of the Hungarian architect , was inaugurated in 1877, after the completion of the ceremonial hall. The clock, which has a mechanism that plays the Ode to Joy by at a fixed time, was built in Switzerland and brought in 1878 to Arad. Due to the European economic crises in 1873, the construction was found impossible to build. They hired another architect, the local architect Ferenc Pekar who modified the blueprints, cutting out some of the elements. The previous town hall, which was located in another part of the city, was built somewhere in the 17th century and had become less accessible after Arad’s expansion, so a new one was needed.

The clock tower that towers high above the building, which is built in the styles of Eclectic and Neo-Renaissance, is adorned with and pointed .
