Tisza Hotel

The multi-story residential building was built on the site of the castle that was demolished after the in 1879. The building permit for the construction was issued in 1883 to Lipót Obláth who commissioned the creation of the design to the Hungarian architects Nándor Jiraszek and Lipót Krausz. The construction of the building, which was built to house a hotel, was completed in 1885 and the official opening ceremonial took place on January 23, 1886. The hotel, which was named in honor of , became one of the centers of social life in Szeged.

Balls and concerts were regularly organized in the hotel's ballroom, the center of Szeged's musical life, and repeatedly captivated the audience with his piano playing. In February 1903, it was further expanded, and in 1949, the hotel was closed but reopened its doors after renovation in 1963. In 1992, the new owners also renovated it, preserving its historical atmosphere, and added a whole range of modern services.
