City Pharmacy

The three-story building, which was built way back in the 16th century, gained its current form in 1885. It became in use as the City Pharmacy which was run by the pharmacist Franc Minařik, who was born on June 9, 1887, in . He spent his childhood at a glass factory where his father, Josip Minařik, originally from the Czech Republic, was the director. He attended high school in Maribor and in 1909 completed his pharmacy studies in . After his studies, he ran a pharmacy in , and in 1927 he bought the City Pharmacy from the Royal Eagle in Maribor. He devoted his life to working in a pharmacy and to the enthusiastic research of the history of pharmacy, for which he was awarded several times. On his initiative and with the cooperation of the Slovenian Pharmaceutical Society, in 1957 a permanent pharmacy exhibition was organized in the Maribor Provincial Museum. Franc Minařik passed away on June 9, 1972, in Maribor.

The building, which is built in the Neo-Renaissance style, features a under which you can see alternating and , the latter of which are decorated with guttae. In addition, the building also features four beautifully painted panels that are decorated with, among other things, a female head or a . The that are placed above the third floor windows are embellished with a decorative shell and foliage. Above the second floor windows, you can admire a pointed adorned with a and supported by two corbels, as well as another keystone that's adorned with a . The , which can be seen on both sides of the main facade, are all decorated with .
