Dimitrios Toko House

The three-story building, also known as Megaro Tokou, was built in 1879 for the tobacco merchant Dimitrios Toko as his residence. From 1879 until 1880, part of the building was used by the Italian Consulate. After its sale, in 1911, it housed the Greek Consulate until the liberation of Kavala from the Bulgarians in 1913. Between 1913 and 1937 it was used as the city's Town Hall and after the , the private Papasideri High School was housed in the building. Political speeches were delivered from the building's terrace, such as that of , who visited Kavala in 1929. In 1979, it was purchased by the Ministry of Culture, to restore it and house the newly established Ephorate of Antiquities of Kavala and Thassos.

On top of the Neo-Classical building, you can admire a segmental , which is adorned with a garland wreath surrounded by and other floral ornamentation. The features three ornaments that are embellished with and foliage. On the third floor, you can see straight pediments placed on top of four of the windows, as well as four , each crowned with a Doric . The balcony that's located on the same floor is supported by four and secured with a beautifully decorated railing. Above the main entrance door, you can admire a containing the initials D.T. and the year of construction 1879, which can be seen once more above the .
