Avram Yakov House

- Geno Cholakov Street 13 -
The construction of the one-story building, which was originally built for residential purposes, lasted around five to six years and was completed around 1886. The work was complicated not only because of the rich exterior decoration and spacious rooms, but also because of the construction method. The construction was commissioned by the wealthy Jewish merchant Avram Yakov, who traded in cereals. He is also known to have had a son who was mentally ill. However, the family did not live long in the house, because after the Romanian rulers settled in Silistra, the building was used as a prefecture and home of the prefect. Much later, in 1935, Avram Yakov moved to Israel and all traces are lost there. Later on, Dr. Gabrovski worked here but left Silistra after his wife committed suicide. The building was also used as the private clinic of Dr. Shishkov and Dr. Konstantin Hadjioglu, as well as the Red Cross. Sometime later the house became known as the House of Technology, and later, it became the house of the representative office of the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions in Bulgaria.
