The construction of the two-story building, which was built with an administrative function, started in 1897 and was completed in 1899. The construction, which was ordered by the Austro-Hungarian legation, was executed according to the design that came from the hand of the Croatian builder and architect . The building, which was used as the Austo-Hungarian embassy in Cetinje until the , also housed a Roman Catholic chapel. During its history, the building changed its purpose several times. Between the First and the , it became the home of the command of the Zeta Division, and later on, it became the Montenegro State University's faculty of fine arts.
