Stauderhaus

- Stauderplatz 8 -
The construction of the four-story building, which was built with both a residential and a commercial function, was completed in 1909. It was built by the Austrian master builder according to a collaborative project that came from the hand of the Austrian architect and the Czech architect . The building is named after the landlady, Maria Stauder, also known by the name Stauderin and Hirschenwirtin, who was born in 1773 as the daughter of a miller. In 1789, when she was 15, she got married to the much older Klagenfurt baker Franz Millwatsch. After his death, the young widow entered into a second marriage with the merchant Joseph Stauder, with whom she ran two inns in Klagenfurt.

Joseph Stauder died in 1826, and years later, in 1861, Maria Stauder passed away. In the will she made created in 1854, Maria decided to bequeath all her assets to the community of Klagenfurt, on the premise that her disabled son could be the beneficiary of the real estate and the cash assets until his death. The Stauderhaus was built on the plot where Maria's guesthouse once used to stand, which was named the Golden Deer.
