Karl Morré House

The core of the three-story building, which houses both a residential and commercial function, dates back to the 17th century. Some renovations took place in 1741, as well as in 1793, where by 1741 the building received its characteristic ornamentation. One of the inhabitants was the Austrian folk poet, playwright, and member of the Reichsrat, Karl Morré, who was born here on November 8, 1832. He was born in the family of Anton and Aloisia Morré, a merchant family of German origin. In 1848 the family moved from to , where in 1857 Karl joined the civil service, and later became an administrative and financial officer. He served as a member of the Styrian Provincial Assembly, where he was elected in 1886. He became a member of the Imperial Council in 1891 from which he resigned on October 10, 1893. In addition to his work as a politician, he also was a writer of folk poetry and plays, and in his work used elements of the Styrian and Carinthian dialects. In December 1896 he became seriously ill and suffered from heart disease, and not much later in February 1897, he passed away.

An honorary plaque is placed on the facade of the Neo-Renaissance building, which is placed there in honor of Karl Morré. A is placed above each of the third and second floor windows, some of which are adorned with . Each of these windows is flanked by two , which are crowned with a Doric . Within the pediments, you can either admire a decorative shell or a symmetrical ornament decorated by playful lines. Beautiful marble stones are placed around the main wooden entrance door, including a and an containing the years of renovation.
