The residential and commercial building, which was built as a three-story building in 1870, was constructed according to the project of the local architect . The construction was commissioned by the Greek merchant Anastasie Safrano, whose daughter, Elena Safrano, got married to the Transylvanian politician Alexandru Vaida Voevod. They met in 1896 in Karlsbad, nowadays , after Vaida had just obtained his doctorate at the medical school in . He fell in love with Elena and married her in 1901, after a year of keeping in touch only through letters. After the marriage, the lovers chose to live in Cluj and together they had three boys and a girl. On December 1, 1918, Alexandru participated in the Great National Assembly in Alba Iulia. From 1901 until 1945, the palace stayed the residence of Elena and Alexandru during their stays in Brașov.
