Brașov Art Museum

The two-story multi-purpose building was originally built in 1858 and adjusted in 1902 according to a design that came from the hand of the local architect Moritz Wagner. The building was built for the Association of Saxon Craftsmen from Brașov, also known at that time under its German name, the Kronstadt Gewerbe Vereinhaus. The tavern with the name Tavern on the Road, which was inaugurated in 1902, was located on the first floor of the building.

After the in 1950, during the communist times, the building was nationalized, then remodeled and adapted between 1969 and 1970 to house the Brașov Art Museum. The museum was established in 1949 as a branch of the State Museum of Brașov, which was founded in the same year. Before the museum moved into this building in 1970, it was located in the old Brașov Town Hall, also known as the Council House. After the anti-communist in 1989, on June 11, 1990, the museum separated from the county museum and became an independent institution. The Brașov Art Museum includes a national painting and sculpture gallery in the six rooms on the first floor of the building and an exhibition of decorative art.

The central top gable of the Neo-Baroque building, which is lavishly adorned with , is flanked by two lantern towers that are both crowned with a . At the same height, you can see several decorative vases, as well as two dormers that are topped with a segmental and another finial. The frieze underneath it features three fragments that contain an . Around these fragments, you can see several , , cartouches, , , and some floral and geometric decorations. Much of this ornamentation has been used elsewhere as well, with the addition of and .
