Ivan Konstantinov House

The residential building was built in 1905 for the Bulgarian painter and construction entrepreneur Ivan Yanev Konstantinov. He was born around 1850 in the town of , then in the Ottoman Empire, in the family of a yarn and fabric painter. In his hometown, he studied in a so-called private of , as well as at the local Greek school. In 1869 he went to and studied icon painting at both the and the . In the following years, he painted lots of churches all over Bulgaria, Serbia, and Romania. In 1910 he settled in Sofia where he painted several churches in villages around Sofia. He also painted curtains for theatrical scenes and landscapes. He died on March 22, 1917, in Sofia.

This Art Nouveau building is a perfect example of the use of geometric forms to decorate a building. This in combination with the beautiful wooden that support the roof overspan. Above the windows on the second floor, you can see a , which is decorated with coin like ornaments. In between and around the windows you can see some fragments that are adorned with circles, relief, and . The same counts for the and the fragments located on the corners and the center of the building. The last mentioned fragments are even decorated with some lilies.
