István Szalay House

After the prohibition to construct around the citadel was lifted by the town planning plans that were drawn up between 1893 and 1895, several plots of land were put into auction by the City Hall. At the first auction, the cobbler István Szalay and his wife Teréz, bought a plot on which they built a two-story residential building. In the fall of 1902, István Szalay obtained a building permit, and soon after the construction started, which lasted until 1903.

On top of the Eclectic building, which is made of bricks and sandstones, you can admire a adorned with . The same applies to the roof , which also features several underneath them. A is placed above the second floor windows, on top of two of which, a statue of an eagle was placed. The fragments that can be seen above the windows on the first floor are embellished with, among other things, , , and foliage. In the central part of the main facade, just above the main entrance, there's a balcony that's supported by two corbels and secured with a stone balustrade with incorporated .
