The construction of the five-story building, which was built with an educational and commercial function, took place in a period that lasted from 1923 until 1924. It was built according to the plan that was created in 1912 by the Serbian architects and . Although the digging of the foundation began at the end of the same year, the building was not completed until 1924, after the and the and the . After 1924 only the Academy's Lexicographic Department and the Estate Administration were housed in the building, while the rest of the building was rented out. Since February 24, 1952, it has been used by the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts, which was established on November 19, 1841. The Academy was established by the law of November 1, 1886, which was passed by the assembly and promulgated by King in .

A huge dome is placed on top of the part of the Art Nouveau building, in front of which a broken segmental is located. Within the broken part, you can admire a sculptural composition of the Greek goddess , which crowns commerce and industry. The rest of the building is complemented by statues of figures of children with books, as well as two groups with a female figure and two children. Underneath the roof , you can see , motifs, a band adorned with laurel leaves, as well as , which in some cases are adorned with . On both corners, there is a that's supported by several pillars and covered by an . The loggias were placed on top of an to which several are linked, which in some cases extend to the avant-corps part of the building. The ornamentation around the building consists mainly of , , , and garlands, including garlands of wreaths. In the Corinthian that crowns the two central are even adorned with a cartouche and a mascaron.
