József Görög House

The original building, which was built as a one-story building with a residential function, dates back to the 18th century. Between 1827 and 1828, an extension of two floors was commissioned by the owner, the merchant József Görög. At the time of the merchant's death, the upgrade was still under construction and was completed by the merchant's widow in 1838. The building was used by the City Council between 1848 and 1849, as the old Council House was damaged by the Austrians during the and then burned down. In 1848, Károly Görög invited the Hungarian poet and liberal revolutionary to his home, who together with General was on his way to Segesvár, nowadays .

Another famous person who stayed here in 1852 in the building was Emperor himself, who at that point traveled halfway to Beszterce, nowadays . In 1868, the Savings Bank moved into the building, which is represented by the beehive relief that decorates the facade, as a symbol of frugality. After the communist nationalization in 1948, the building first became a grain collection center and then became the property of the Romanian Army.

The on top of the Neo-Classical building is adorned with several , , , and an . The tympanum and the roof are embellished with , some of which are adorned with foliage. The three decorative bands that run around the entire building, are beautifully decorated with geometric patterns. The , which extend over two floors, are decorated with a and crowned with a Corinthian . The window frame of the third floor windows, in which a is placed with incorporated , is supported by two . The same counts for the pointed that are placed above the second floor windows, which are topped with a . The windows on the first floor on the western side of the building are inlaid with windows.
