Vladimir Herța House

The one-story building was built between 1903 and 1905 originally with a residential function, which later changed into a military, cultural, and educational function. The building was constructed according to the project of the Austrian architect Heinrich Lonsky for the Bessarabian jurist and politician Vladimir Herța, who ordered the construction. Vladimir was born on May 14, 1868, in Chișinău, and studied at the Gymnasium, the most prestigious educational institution in Bessarabia, from which he graduated in 1866. It is said that he graduated from a legal high school in . After he got married, without his father's consent, the young man led a life as a traveling singer in Italy. Then, wasting all his parental wealth, he settled in Romania. In 1917 he was installed as vice president of the Moldavian National Party and the Moldavian Cultural Society. He played a significant role in the role of the union.

In 1907 the house was handed over to the Volânia Infantry Regiment to house the officers' office and meeting. In the 30s of the 20th century, the building was transformed into the theater with the name Modern Theater, and later it was the headquarters of the Ministry of Bessarabia. In the fall of 1940, after the annexation of Bessarabia to the Soviet Union, the building was reorganized into the Art Museum of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic.
