Ferde Knoppa House

The symmetrical two-story building, which was constructed in 1886 with both residential and commercial premises, was built for the director of the Osijek Foundation Hospital and city physicist, Doctor Ferde Knoppa. He received the building permit on August 5, 1885, and used the permit on October 11, 1886. He was born on September 16, 1837, in Osijek, and after elementary and high school education in his native Osijek, he continued his education at the Medical Faculty, where he graduated in 1862. After completing his studies, he returned to Osijek, where he initially had a private practice, and then got a job in the city hospital.

After the construction of a new hospital building, he was appointed primarius and director of the Foundation Hospital. In 1874, through his efforts, the professional society called the Society of Slavonian Physicians was founded, and in 1877, he became the initiator of the professional medical magazine. After the death of Ferde Knoppa on December 9, 1921, and the death of his wife Terezija, was bought by the pharmacist Karlo Bulart, who converted the first floor into a pharmacy. On the eve of the , the famous grocery and delicatessen shop of the merchant Viktor Barić was located on the first floor.

On top of the building, which is built in the styles of Eclectic and Neo-Renaissance, you can see two segmental that contain a decorative shell surrounded by foliage. Loads of and fragments adorned with floral decoration are placed underneath the of which the segmental pediments are part of. Even more corbels are used to support the open pointed and the open segmental pediments that are placed above the second floor windows, which are decorated with . The and the part underneath the windows are richly decorated with all sorts of floral ornamentation, including . The windows above which the pointed pediments are placed are flanked by , which are crowned with a Corinthian .
