Ion Nanu-Muscel House

The two-story building was built somewhere in the period between 1909 and 1911 according to the plans of the Romanian architect . It was built for the residential needs of the Romanian professor of semiology Ion Nanu-Muscel, who was born on November 30, 1862, in , in the family of Ghita Nanu and Zoe. He started his studies at the medical clinic of the Colțea Hospital, and after that, between 1885 and 1889, he continued his studies in . After his return to Bucharest, he could not get a job because of intrigues, so he returned to Câmpulung, where he worked as a hygiene teacher at the Normal School. From 1899 he worked as a primary doctor at Filantropia, and between 1901 and 1906 he worked at Urziceni Hospital. With the help of his friend , he joined the Conservative Party, being elected senator in the years between 1905 and 1907, as well as in 1911. He was a doctor during the , and from 1919 he took over the management of the clinic in Colțea, from where he retired in 1936. Ion Nanu-Muscel passed away in 1938 at the age of 75.

In 1940, the building was donated by the widow of Ion Nanu-Muscel to the Commercial Academy to house retired teachers of the School and students. During the communist era, the new regime sold the building to other institutions. Later on, it was passed into private ownership, and the building was bought in 2012 by the Academy of Economic Studies.

The mansard roof of the building, which is a mix of Art Nouveau, Historicism, and Neo-Baroque styles, contains different kinds of dormers, some of which are embellished with and a decorative shell. Underneath the roof , you can see different kinds of , as well as and motifs and frieze that's adorned with foliage and . On top of the cornice, there's a lovely statue that leans on a decorative vase. Underneath the segmentally shaped cornice, you can see a spectacle consisting of a richly decorated surrounded by two . More cartouches are used to decorate the , which is supported by two astonishing , which also count for some of the that are incorporated with . In addition to all this beautiful ornamentation, the building also contains and crowned with an Ionic . The impressive that covers the main entrance is supported by wrought iron corbels.
