National Printhouse

The construction of the four-story residential and commercial building, which was executed by the Slovenian builder according to the project of the Slovenian architect , took place between 1902 and 1904. The building was built to house the National Printhouse, which was the first printing house in Slovenia suitable for large-scale production. The National Printhouse started operating in 1872 in the house of Luka Tavčar, where they printed the newspaper called Slovenski Narod, which was published until 1945. From 1904, newspapers and books were printed in the modernized printing house for their own publishing and other clients.
The building after its completion
The top gable of the symmetrical building, which is built in the style of Art Nouveau, features, in addition to a pointed and , also an decorated with . The two are each adorned with a , as well as a garland wreath. Another mascaron can be admired above the balcony door that leads to the balcony that's placed on top of the that covers the main entrance door. In addition to , , and even more pediments, the building is also embellished with several decorative bands adorned with all sorts of motifs.
