Janko Veselinović Elementary School

The two-story eductional building, which was constructed between 1885 and 1887 for the needs of the elementary school, is one of the oldest schools in Šabac. The new school opened its doors to its students in 1887, and one of their teachers at the time was famous Serbian writer . He became a educator, storyteller, recorder of social events, participant in the , one time president of the municipality of Koceljeva and political prisoner, but he was, above all, a man of the people, who was an inexhaustible inspiration for his literary creation. The name of the school changed many times during its existence and bore, among other things, the name of the Serbian politician, pedagogue and translator , but was eventually given the name of Janko Veselinović, who taught here himself.

The that are placed underneath the roof of the Eclectic building are embellished with foliage. Above the second floor windows, you'll either see a pointed or a straight , while above the first floor windows, only a straight pediment can be seen. The are crowned with a Corinthian , while the columns that can be seen underneath the pointed pediments are crowned with a Doric one.
