The design for the construction of the detached one-story building, which was created by the Croatian architect on July 11, 1905, was by the Governorship of the Free and Royal City of Osijek on July 29, 1905. The construction was commissioned by the local physician and city physicist, Doctor Ferdo Knopp, who had it built for his wife Terezija. After Ferde Knopp's death in December 1921, the villa was bought by Rudolf Povischil, the son of Osijek furniture industrialist Josef Povischil, who had it remodeled in 1922. He was an eccentric person prone, who often allegedly organized dissolute parties in that villa. Rudolf Povischil was also a great patron of the Osijek artist , who also had his art studio in the villa. After the end of the , the property of the Povischils was confiscated, and the family members ended up in a camp. Later on, the villa became in use as the headquarters of the Osijek Association of Craftsmen at the Croatian Chamber of Crafts, which reorganized its activities in 1965.
