The design for the construction of the two-story building, which was solely built for residential purposes, was signed in April 1896 by the builder and construction entrepreneur . It was built for the residential needs of his family by the landowner Aleksander Šandor Popović, who was born in 1861, in the town of . In 1894, he moved to Osijek with his wife Marija Popović, maiden name Vujić, and four children, Konstanca, Julka, Jela, and Dušan. Two more sons were born in Osijek, who were Stevan in 1896 and Milivoj in 1898. Aleksander ordered a building to be built that was identical to the one they lived in in Hungary, but instead of a one-story building in Osijek, a two-story building was built. In every room, there are still original clay stoves of various sizes that were created in the famous factory in .

The roof of the Neo-Renaissance building is decorated with a strip of . Underneath the pointed , which are placed above the second floor windows, you can see two supportive , as well as a , which are also placed on top of the first floor windows. Above the main entrance door, a segmental pediment can be seen, which is supported by two corbels, which are adorned with foliage and . Between the corbels, you can admire a fragment that's embellished with and surrounded by even more volutes.
