Bauer-Wranka House

The construction of the two-story corner building, which was built for commercial purposes, was completed in 1902. The building was designed by the Osijek architect Adalbert Bauer and was built by Osijek builder Pavao Wranka as their income building. Adalbert Bauer was born in Osijek in 1872, and as a technical high school graduate, he was sent from to Osijek to the builder Rikard Jordan to lead the construction of the new parish church of Saint Peter and Paul. After the construction, he became an independent entrepreneur and later joined forces with builder Pavao Wranka. Adalbert died in 1903 at the age of 31 from pneumonia that he got during the construction of the cathedral. Immediately after the completion of the construction of this building, the editorial offices of Osijek's first Croatian-language newspaper, Narodna Obrana, and the First Croatian joint-stock printing house, took residence in the building.

The three protruding parts on the corner of the Art Nouveau building are characterized by and a depicting . The are richly decorated with garland wreaths and in two cases with a and a mascaron depicting the Greek god . The balcony that's also located on the corner is secured with a wrought iron railing and supported by a total of three , which are embellished with and floral decorations. More volutes and floral decorations can be admired above the first and second floor windows, where in some cases you can also admire a decorative shell.
