Marija Schönwald House

- Šetalište Kardinala Franje Šepera 7 -
The construction of the two-story semi-detached building, which was solely built for residential purposes, was completed in 1906. The projects for the construction of this building were done by two very important builders from Osijek, the Austrian architect and builder and the Croatian architect . Although they are apparently similar, Hofbauer's project was a touch more classic, so the owners decided on a more ornate facade in the spirit of Art Nouveau and chose the project of the builder Ante Slaviček. The plans for the construction of the building were approved by the Construction Office of the Free and Royal City of Osijek in August 1904, and the building was ready for occupancy in 1906.

The building was built for the Schönwald family, and the owner of the building was the widow Marija Schönwald. Marija was able to achieve that as many as six families could live under her roof. Two five-room, two three-room, and two one-room apartments with a total of 18 rooms, four bathrooms, four kitchens, and ten utility rooms were designed inside the building.
