The construction of the one-story building, built for commercial purposes, was executed in the period that lasted from 1903 until 1904. Sources vary as to who designed the building, as some sources say that the architect or the architect , both of Hungarian origin, created the design, while others state that the Hungarian architect Ödön Horvath created the design. The order for its construction was given by the lawyer Rudolf Wollak and it was subsequently put into use by the Čakovec Merchants' Association. The building originally had a hall for dancing, rooms for games, reading, and socializing, and a special room with rich furniture was arranged for the ladies, and official language of the club was Hungarian. Since the end of the , the building has been known as the Trade Union headquarters, and during two decades, from 1966 until 1986, a part of the building was used as a library and reading room.

The detached building with a pitched gable roof and roofed with tiles is built in the Art Nouveau style. The most striking element of its appearance is the pattern of natural, grouted brick strips on the plastered white wall surfaces. The main of the facade undulates along the entire building.
