The building, built as a two-story building, was constructed in 1904 as an administrative and commercial building by construction entrepreneur Július Grün to house a branch of the Royal Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture. In 1912, they upgraded the building with another floor and a defining dome was placed on top of the corner. In December 1918, the building was used by the Ministry with full power for the administration of Slovakia, as at that time, the government of Slovakia, headed by Vavr Šrobár, was based here and Žilina became the capital of Slovakia for a while. In 1929, the original first floor was rebuilt by the reconstruction plans of Žigo Wertheimer, and during the reconstruction, the windows and entrance were changed for the needs of Július Hofmann's furniture store. In 1932, Jozef Buxman and his family bought the building, and after the , he returned from the concentration camp and got his building back. After his death in 1947, a part of the building was acquired by his brother Gejza and the Klein family. The building was nationalized in 1949 and was acquired by the company called Tatra Furniture Nitra, in 1954 by the Žilina household goods store, the Sauer Restaurant, and from 1960 by Nábytok Žilina, which had its shop here on the first floor until 1991.

On top of the of the Eclectic building, just underneath where the dome used to be, various can be seen, the same ones as used in the balconets that are placed in the turret. Underneath the parts where the roof and the protrude, you can see a richly decorated surrounded by all sorts of floral decorations, including foliage. A decorative shell and a are placed on top of each of the . The parts above the third and underneath the second floor windows are embellished with , while the certain parts underneath the third floor windows, are adorned with , and certain parts above the second floor windows feature a .
