- Kálov 3 -
The two-story building, which was built somewhere at the beginning of the 20th century, was constructed on the plot where the house of Daniel Koreň once stood. Originally the building had no water supply or sewers; at that time the town did not have these conveniences. They were built between 1912 and 1913 and plans dating from that time indicate that a bathroom was added then. The building was constructed for the then-famous Žilina photographer Ján Vykopal, who was born on October 9, 1867, and became an important photographer, especially of Žilina and its inhabitants. His photographs captured the major social events of the city, various celebrations, marches, exercises, and more. He also photographed residents of the city and surrounding area. Ján was married to Elena, the maiden name Kicsin, from whom their children Albert, Jolana, and Irena were born, the latter of whom was also employed at Ján Vykopal’s photographic studio. Ján was a great traveler and traveled a large part of the globe. He died of a lung disease on June 27, 1932, in Žilina, and in 1934, his children inherited the house. Their heirs owned the house until 1961 when it was nationalized.
