Stoyan Bachvarov Dramatic Theater

The idea for the construction of the theater came from the mayor , who ruled the city in the period between 1909 and 1912. At the beginning of his term, on June 15, 1909, he submitted a proposal to the Municipal Council for the and construction of a new city theater. His proposal was adopted unanimously. On March 26, 1912, the foundation stone was laid by the mayor of Varna Ivan Tserov. He delivered a speech outlining the high cultural significance of the theater and the urgent need for a city theater in Varna. The theater is designed by the Bulgarian architect .

After an enthusiastic start and several years that the construction was halted because of the outbreak of several wars, the construction work finally resumed in 1927. When the construction was completed, some changes were made, and the stage was expanded on both sides and in depth by the Bulgarian architect . The theater finally opened its doors on June 5, 1932. The theater first bore the name Municipal Professional Theater but in 1957, on the occasion of its 35th anniversary, the theater was named after the Bulgarian actor .

The building, which is built in a horseshoe shape, is built in the Neo-Baroque style. On top of the huge dome, located above the main entrance, a lyre harp can be seen, which is an attribute of the Greek god , the god of prophecy and music. The balconets are supported by three , one of which also functions as a for the circle top window below it.
The project for the construction of the theater
The circular entrance is flanked by two towers that are identical. Each of the towers is decorated with cartouches, floral ornaments, and a decorative vase. Similar towers, but less decorated, can be seen on the side of the building. There are a lot more cartouches on the sides of the building, as well as balconets.
