Dimitar Kenkov House

The residential and commercial building was built in 1915 by a project of the Bulgarian architect . It was built for the Bulgarian construction entrepreneur and trader Dimitar Panayotov Kenkov. He was born in 1870 in the village of Dambeni, then in the Ottoman Empire but in 1895, he moved to Varna.

He was engaged in construction and trade and was an activist of the Varna Macedonian Society. At the outbreak of the , he was a Macedonian-Edirna volunteer. In 1932 he bought a ship called the Esperos from the Greek Georgi Evangelov Milopas, which was built by the company named Palmer Bros & Co in 1867 in . Until its purchase, the ship changed a dozen owners, who named it by various names. It was named Macedonia by the new owner Dimitar Kenkov. In 1941, shortly after he sold it, the ship was renamed the Struma by its new owners. The ship sunk in the Black Sea while it was transporting Jewish refugees.

He is the uncle of the Bulgarian director and screenwriter, Panayot Kenkov, which was also one of the pioneers of Bulgarian cinema.

The symmetrical building is built in the styles of Eclectic and Art Nouveau and contains two . There's a small balcony on top of each of the oriel windows, which is secured with a stone balustrade that contains the same as the next to them. The part above the balconies is embellished with decorative vases, a decorative shell, a , and some floral ornamentation. The underneath the that are located between the attic and third floor are adorned with foliage.

Around the windows, on the third and second floor, you'll be able to see some beautiful floral ornamentation. Above some of the windows, you can even see some decorative shells, , and even an motif can be seen there. One of the two balconies in between the oriel windows is secured with a stone balustrade and the other with a wrought iron railing. Underneath the oriel windows, as well as one of the balconies, you can see some supportive decorated with garland wreaths and acanthus foliage.
