Nikola Popov House

The residential building was built in 1921 and was designed by the architect . The building was built for the Bulgarian lawyer, teacher, politician, municipal councilor, and former mayor of Varna, Nikola Hristov Popov. He was born on February 11, 1875, in , now North Macedonia as the son of the priest .

Nikola Popov graduated in law from the University in 1902 and entered the Varna District Court as an intern. After two years of experience, he was appointed candidate judge at the District Court but fails to get the job. He was dismissed by order of Prince because at the just-concluded Congress of Lawyers, in which he took part, he signed a telegram to the king about the poor governance of the then ruling party. During the , he was a platoon Commander in the 8th Coastal Regiment and was wounded in the battle near the village of Kolibi. During the , he was mobilized and ended the war as a Captain.

In 1927 he was elected Mayor of Varna and remained in office until 1930. After the coup on September 29, 1944, he was arrested as a former Mayor but was released a few days later. Towards the end of 1953, he fell ill with cancer and died on May 9, 1954, in Varna.

The southern and eastern facade of the Art Nouveau building contains multiple similarities. Both contain a kind of Dutch gable, which can be clearly seen by the flanking the balcony. The wrought iron railing of the balcony is adorned with and flowers. Above the circle top window, you can see a beautifully decorated , as well as a swan neck segmental . Above it, you'll see a decorative shell that can also be seen above the windows on the first floor and between the two that are placed on the corner of the building. Around the windows on the second floor, you can see a frame that's decorated with .
