Jacques Lazar House

The residential and commercial building was built in 1896 to contain four shops, offices, workshops, and warehouses for hats. The first project, which was not realized, is the work of the architect Ivan Hayes, and the second is by Udo Ribau, who designed the final design. It was built for the merchant and manufacturer Jacques Lazar, who registered his French company in 1907. A complete renovation took place in 1973, after which the building was used as a hotel.

The building, which is built in the Neo-Renaissance style, resembles a building, which is common in northwestern Europe. The contrasting colors of the red bricks and the white sandstone parts, give the building a beautiful appearance. The gables that stand out from the interrupted roof are crowned with a segmental . A can be seen at the places where the roof cornice got interrupted. The four segmental fragments above the windows on the third floor are adorned with an ornament that's decorated with . The protruded that flank the windows give the building a nice multidimensional touch. Above the other windows, you can see a , as well as a rectangular cartouche with underneath it an ornament that resembles a frog.

Either an open broken swan neck or an open broken pointed pediment is placed above the windows on the second floor. Within the pointed pediments, you'll be able to see a decorative vase, while within the swan neck pediments you'll see a cartouche with the initials of the first owner Ж.Л. (J.L.). The balcony is secured with a beautifully decorated curved wrought iron railing. The corbels, that support the pediments and windowsills on the second and third floor, are embellished with .

The keystones above the circle top windows on the first floor are adorned with volutes. The fragments above the rectangular windows are decorated with a cartouche, as well as two . These same windows are flanked by that are crowned with Composite .
