David Kaneti House

The residential and commercial building was built in 1892 and was designed by the architect Spiros Valsamaki. It was built for the merchant David Kaneti, who is part of the famous Jewish Kaneti family that arrived in Ruse in 1864. The dynamic economic development of the city, the bustling port, and the convenient transport links with Western Europe are the reason why the wealthy Kaneti family left , settled here, and took advantage of good trade opportunities. Later on, the building was used by Yanko Dimitrov as a fur studio called the White Bear.

On top of the building, which is built in the Neo-Renaissance style, you'll be able to see a , which is flanked by two beautifully decorated vases. The , which are placed within the tympanum, are embellished with foliage. Within the tympanum, you'll be able to admire two male sculptures that are holding up a cartouche, which contains a monogram with the initials D.K. The acanthus foliage that surrounds this spectacle gives the whole thing even more elegance. The frieze underneath it is decorated with , as well as . The pretty unusual above the windows on the second floor are supported by two . Within the segmental part of the pediment, you can admire a of the Greek god . The that are located on the same floor are crowned with Corinthian . The two balconies, which are supported by wrought iron corbels, also contain a wrought iron railing. A female mascaron is placed in some of the fragments underneath the windows, as well as in the capitals that can be seen on the first floor.
