Vasil Bachvarov House

The residential and commercial building was constructed in 1894 and was designed by the architect Ivan Hayes. It was built by the entrepreneur Vasil Bachvarov with funds from the dowry of his wife Maria Karakasheva. He was born in in 1860 and was a long-time postal worker in a couple of cities. In 1898, with a loan of BGN 10.000, he founded the First Steam Soap Factory in Ruse. After his death in 1913, Maria sold this house to the master sausage maker Yotsa Pavlov and moved with her children in an apartment to the factory itself. Vasil Bachvarov's son, Georgi Bachvarov, completed specialized courses in perfumery and soap making in . When he returned to Ruse, he founded the Collection company called Vasil Bachvarov, a factory for soaps, glycerin, and perfumes, in which his brother Asen and his mother Maria also took part. The soap factory is a supplier to the royal family and is among the leading companies in Bulgaria. The factory is one of the most modern installations for the production and distillation of glycerin.

Georgi Bachvarov was elected to the Management Board Council of the Union of Bulgarian Industrialists and from 1941 he has been vice-president of the Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Neo-Classical building contains two types of , a pointed and a swan neck, all of which are supported by two . The swan neck pediment is embellished with a decorative shell, foliage, and two . The pointed one is adorned with two laying . Between the two windows, which are located underneath the swan neck pediment, you'll see a that's crowned with a Doric . The balcony is secured with a railing inlaid with glass and is supported by two wrought iron corbels.
