Ivan Stoyanov House

The commercial building was built in 1892 as an income building for the Bulgarian merchant Ivan Stoyanov. He was born in Tarnovo, nowadays , in 1841. Midhat Pasha appointed him to be a salt inspector in Ruse, but this caused dissatisfaction among the Turks. He was forced to leave his state job and went to Romania, where he became one of the suppliers of construction materials for the construction of the Giurgiu- railway line. He got rich quickly and provided a generous amount of assistance to the Bulgarian revolutionary movement.

After the Ivan Stoyanov settled permanently in Ruse. He was married to the Austrian noblewoman Gabriela von Walter and together they had eight children. He became one of the most respected citizens of Ruse and his charity lasted until his death in 1917.

The telegraph and post office of Ruse was housed in the income building of Ivan Stoyanov from the day the building was constructed until 1930. In 1945 the building was converted into a hotel and restaurant called the Danube, but after the construction of a new hotel in the center of Ruse, it was renamed Sevastopol.

The building, which is built in the Neo-Baroque style, contains two large beautifully decorated dormers on each corner of the building. Underneath the roof , as well as on the pointed on the second floor, you can see strips of . The pediments are supported by two supportive , within their midst a . Above the windows on the first floor, you'll be able to see a straight pediment. In between some of these same windows you can admire a , which is shaped like an arrow at the top.
