Sava Velezli House

The plot was bought in 1890 from Elmaz Hasanova and the construction of the residential and commercial building started in 1891. The design was made by the architect Iliya Hristov and was built for the industrialist and entrepreneur Sava Georgiev Velezliev. He was born in 1834 in the town and before the , he moved to Ruse. When he arrived in Ruse, he worked as a coffee maker and later opened his own pub. In 1877 he founded the Brewery but sold the brewery in 1894 and focused on the production of soft drinks. Sava and his wife Elena make a donation in favor of poor students from the St. George School.

In 1948 Dr. Dimitar Kostov bought the inner house from the heir Nacho Savov Velezliev. Dr. Kostov's wife is the famous Ruse artist Roxandra Kostova and in this house is her studio. Later on, the great-granddaughter of Sava Velezliev, Katya Mincheva, lived in the building together with her husband Dimitar.

The most eye-catching feature of the Art Nouveau building is the octagonal with a bell shaped roof on top of it. The turret, as well as the gable to the right of it, is decorated with many square forms. The semi onion cone shaped bottom of the turret gives it a harmonious connection with the walls below it. Above the two circle top windows on the second floor, you'll see a pointed frame that on both sides ends with two . The stone blocks that build up the arch above the main entrance door are embellished with the technique of .
