Baklov Brothers Building

In 1911, the Baklov brothers built a commercial building that housed the Commercial Popular Bank, which was designed by the civil engineer Gero Gerov. Baklov is an old Revival family from Tarnovo, nowadays . Its patriarch is the respected craftsman and shoemaker Konstantin Baklov, nicknamed "Baklata", who before the supplied shoes for the Turkish army. In 1880, the brothers Dimitar and Hristo Baklov founded The Baklov Company which dealt in leather products. The company became very successful and in 1889 their brother Petar Baklov joined, who is a graduate at the Robert College in . The company was a major wholesaler of leather products and later began selling sewing machines, bicycles, vineyard sprayers, and many more. The economic crisis in the late 1920s brought the Baklov brothers' company to bankruptcy, they ceased their activity and sold the building. From that moment on, the building was a department store, which housed many different stores.
Hristo, Dimitar, and Petar
The most eye-catching features of the Art Nouveau building are the beautiful onion dome on the corner of the building, as well as the semi-octagonal underneath it. On top of it, you'll see a bell shaped roof and underneath the roof, you can see a garland and the construction year 1911. Underneath the oriel window, you can see a beautifully decorated . Underneath the mansard roof, which contains some dormers, you can see an motif. A bit further down you can see a wavy pattern, which includes eyes, and even further down three triangles with half flowers. On the west and south side of the building, there's an even bigger green man, which is surrounded by foliage. Also on the east side, you'll be able to see a balcony, which is supported by two pairs of different sized . A of the Greek god , patron of trade and culture, is placed in between one pair of corbels.
