State Opera Ruse

The building was built in 1955 for the use of the Opera and Philharmonic Society, which was founded in 1949. It took over the Ruse Opera Society, which had been created in 1914. As early as the 19th century, temporary opera, choir, and symphony groups began to form in Ruse, as a result of the serious contact with the European musical culture.

Because of the new state policy, which was in the year 1949, the Opera Friendship Ruse was nationalized and transformed into National Opera Ruse. In the same year that the new building of the opera house was built, the Ruse Opera exported its season to the city of Sofia. In 1958, the Ruse Opera began a decades-long collaboration with the Romanian National Opera in , and a year later began a close collaboration with the Union of Composers in . The Ruse Opera and Philharmonic Society was established in 1999, joining the Ruse Opera Theatre and the Ruse Philharmonic Orchestra.

If you look from afar towards the main facade of the Neo-Classical building, you'll be able to see a , which is placed on the . The auditorium is embellished with a lot of small and is surrounded by a roof terrace. The roof terrace is secured with a stone balustrade, which is adorned with . Underneath the , which are located in the frieze, you'll be able to see a total of seven . The underneath it contains some beautiful arched openings that are flanked by round shaped , which are crowned with Ionic . The balustrade contains the same styled balusters as the one that secures the roof terrace. On both sides of the main facade, you'll see an with the inscription State Opera Rousse. The , which are placed above the five entrances, are adorned with a lyre harp.
