Stefan Dachev House

- Tsar Kaloyan Street 3 -
The residential and commercial building was built in 1912 for the Bulgarian merchant Stefan Dachev. Already in 1905, he had a building built, by a project of the Austrian architect Eduard Winter, in the yard for one of his daughters when she married the lawyer Malchiev.

In 1924 the commercial part of Stefan's house was rented by the three brothers Albert, Mois, and Josif Nisimov, who opened a factory for straw hats called Rouge. They started to produce men's cloth hats with imported materials from Italy, China, and Australia. Albert Nisimov managed to take advantage of the Law on the Promotion of Local Industry and expand the factory. The factory had about 200 workers and four directors.
The building that is built in the yard
Both buildings are built in the style of Art Nouveau. Within the pointed corner, on top of the house of Stefan Dachev, you'll be able to see a from which a originates. Underneath it, you can admire a small lovely , which is decorated with festoons and is flanked by two small balconies. The roof overhang is supported by wooden , and in between these corbels you can see a wavy zigzag pattern. The mascarons that are located between two windows are the same as the ones used on the house in the yard. The same counts for the cornice and the fragments that are adorned with wings. Also, the that can be seen underneath the windows are the same. Above one of the two singular windows you can see a decorative shell instead of a mascaron.
