Yurdan Ganev House

The residential building was built in 1894 and was designed by the Austrian architect Ivan Mayor. The building was built for the Bulgarian entrepreneur Yurdan Ganev, who was born in Tarnovo, nowadays . In 1864, Yurdan and his brother Hristaki came to Ruse and opened a modern confectionery on Knyazheska Street, while continuing trading with their contractors in , , , and . They provide funds for the construction of the Girls' School in Ruse and support the publishing of books and newspapers. They are close friends with the activists of the Ruse Revolutionary Committee , , and . Yurdan Ganev became a member of the committee, and Hristaki Ganev became a member of the Bulgarian municipality during the Revival.

In 1875, Yurdan Ganev got married to Smaragda Peneva and together they had four children, Nikola, Venelin, Elena, and Raina. Their son, the Bulgarian lawyer, diplomat, politician, and academic Venelin Ganev, was born on February 16, 1880, in Ruse. He received his higher legal education in and . After his graduation, he works in the field of the general theory of law and commercial law. He took part in the socio-political life of Bulgaria after the . In 1919, he was a member of the Radical Party, Minister of Justice and between 1920 and 1922 he was Minister Plenipotentiary in . He was head of the Bulgarian delegation at the Peace Conference in San Remo in 1920.
